Headmaster's Welcome

Students Air Shot

Welcome to St George’s School Website. It will provide you with a very small glimpse into the life of this wonderful and exceptional school. St George’s provides a truly excellent learning environment where young people are caring and supportive of each other, where the individual is encouraged to flourish, where learning is enjoyed and teaching is a joy.

We are a non‐selective, co‐educational boarding and day school which has been situated in one of the most beautiful settings Hertfordshire and the Home Counties could offer. St George’s is consistently in the top 5% of schools nationally for academic performance, with student achievement and progress being the envy of many independent schools.

Visitors to the school are struck by the warm welcoming atmosphere which quite simply embodies the school’s motto: Aim Higher, which is carved in stone above the original main entrance to the school which was founded in 1907. At St George’s there is a real sense of purpose. Learning is valued and respected; I would even go so far as to say there is a love for learning.

Founded on and very much living our lives through Christian principles, relationships between pupils and all who work and live here are a real pleasure to be part of and experience. Combining traditional values and inspiring teaching, students get an excellent foundation on which to build. These are revealed in the personal qualities that our students exhibit on a daily basis such as respect, service and endeavour, alongside intellectual curiosity and academic rigour.

In addition to the school’s academic prowess, students also benefit from a huge range of social, extra‐curricular and cultural opportunities in Music, Drama, Sport, Literature, History, Art, Languages, Technology, Mathematics and Science. The range which you will see from the website is truly astonishing and there is something for everyone.

I wish you a very enjoyable and informative visit to our website, but to appreciate St George’s fully you need to experience the place first hand and I therefore invite and encourage you to visit the school. Being exceptionally well served by road, train and air and less than 30 minutes by rail from St Pancras Station, London, a trip to St George’s is easy to make, so I look forward to meeting you very soon.
