Report from Will Jones, Head of Medsoc

Last Friday, Dr. Hawkins came into school to give a talk to the Year 12’s about her inspirational work as the founder of the Infant Club Foot Appeal, a charity focused on treating and education people about Club Foot on the African island of Zanzibar. Initially, she explained what Club Foot is, a congenital defect that results in a child’s feet to be turned inwards so that they are unable to work, and how she came to start the charity. Dr. Hawkins described the very moving case of a young child who had an extreme case with his foot, which had been worsened by having no choice but to walk on it for years. She met this child on her most recent visit to Zanzibar, and plans to raise funds to bring him to England for treatment. At St. George’s we have planned to run a tuck shop this Friday in order to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause, and we would welcome any additional donations which can be made by using this web link: http://infantclubfootappeal.org/Donations.html .
