Big Curry Day at St George’s School !

 

School to support ‘1928’ –

the number of UK Service Personnel killed or wounded in the conflict with Afghanistan up to December 31st 2010

 

Innovative ideas for raising money for Soldiers Charity

 

Staff and pupils fully involved in theme of 1928 to raise target of £10,000 for service personnel and their families

 

 

For the third year running St George’s, 1300 pupils and staff at the Harpenden secondary school will be devoting a day to raising money for the Soldier Charity and expect to bet their previous totals and collect £10,000 .

 

Big Curry Day is a national event for the Soldier Charity each spring and staff at the school which is one of the country’s leading day and state boarding schools are devoted to the cause of supporting injured service personnel and their families.

 

On FRIDAY 25th MARCH as number of events have been organised

 

16 staff are taking part in a 19.28 km Great Curry Run having trained during the winter months. Led by Deputy Head Paddy Storrie who had a recent hip replacement operation sponsorship has so far raised £5000 from parents and pupils

 

Over 40 staff are walking the same route during the afternoon with friends and their dogs!

 

Pupils will remain on site and take part in a range of activities all themed around the poignant figure of 1928

 

a 1928 metre no-fun run

 

Doing 19 minutes and 28 seconds of army style PE

 

Doing 19.28 seconds of other activities – e.g. dance, aerobics, rowing machines, exercise bike.

 

Completing the army combat fitness test under the direction of an Army PT instructor.

 

The day will involve the Army Training Regiment from Royston Cambridgeshire running a whole year group (180 students) through a Leadership Challenge through the course of the Friday

 

The Liaison team for the 4 Rifles Infantry Battalion mounting an exhibition of equipment and running younger students through their paintball range set up on the school field

 

Senior students and staff can also take part in the Army Fitness Test during the lunch break

 

 

AND OF COURSE 1300 Pupils and 150 STAFF will be served special CURRY DISHES made by the School’s Catering Department
