ST GEORGE’S MEDIA RELEASE
MONDAY JULY 11th 2011
‘THE FAMOUS FIVE’
‘JOLLY FUN’ FOR ‘INTREPID ARTISTS’
‘SUPER DISPLAY & SPIFFING GOOD FUN’
TO MARK SCHOOL’S END OF TERM AND OLD GEORGIAN WEEKEND
SCHOOL TEACHERS HAVE BEEN PAINTING AT ST GEORGE’S
Teachers show they practice what they preach!
Five Art teachers at Harpenden’s 1300 strong St George’s School will exhibit their
work this week from
Wednesday 13th to Sunday 17th July in the new photographic and
design studio opened last September.
Multi talented Lip Mahil, Julia McNaught, Marian Laker, Carmel Turner and Rory Browne present a variety of art studies from rural landscapes, still life studies to rich textural pieces and urban photography.
All five artists feel strongly about showing their pupils, parents and friends of the school what drives them as artists and gives a rare and stunning insight into their own diverse sources of inspiration.
Lipi who has organised the display and who has taught at the school for four years is excited by this chance:
“ We are usually so rushed off our feet with the huge Art classes we deal with but post exam period this year has been dedicated to us and getting our work ready for our display. We have planned this for months in response to may questions about what drives us, and where do we get our inspiration and ideas from. It is a great chance to share our work with parents, pupils and friends.”
Headmaster Norman Hoare is delighted that his team have mounted this exhibition.
“Interest already has been high and it is so good to have this running all this week and over Old Georgian Weekend, especially on the Sunday when there are other events in the school for former pupils to see St George’s at its best.
I expect much of the work which is currently under wraps will be sold not only as outstanding pieces of highly collectable work, but by parents as mementoes of a bunch of outstanding staff who have inspired their children to achieve the incredible exam results by Art Department gets every year.”
The Exhibition runs in Art Studio 3 in Monk Corridor, (entrance through the Chapel Courtyard at the top of the School’s front drive from Carlton Road)
Wednesday 13th July from 6.30 p.m.
Thursday, Friday evenings at 6 - 8, (not Saturday)
and Sunday 17th from 1.00 to 4.00 p.m.
Light refreshments are served at each showing.
