The Cecil Grant Founder’s Trust (CGFT) is a long-standing charitable initiative established in 1946 by Reverend Cecil Grant, founder of St George’s School, Harpenden. In his lifetime, Reverend Grant pioneered co-education and community-centred learning with a Christian ethos at its core. On his death, he left the trust as a legacy to continue his vision “for the benefit of Georgians for all years to come.”
Our Purpose
The CGFT enriches the educational experience of every pupil at St George’s by funding resources and opportunities beyond those covered by the core school budget. The Trust raises funds for a wide range of educational and enrichment initiatives — from books, computers and invaluable learning materials to equipment for the arts, sciences and sports, as well as enhancements to the school’s buildings and environment. Through this support, every pupil benefits from the generosity of our donors each year.
Over many decades the Trust has evolved with the active support of parents, alumni, governors and friends, growing into an effective charitable body. Its trustees are volunteers drawn from the school community who administer the Trust in accordance with Reverend Grant’s vision.
Impact and Contributions
Thanks to the ongoing support of families and friends of St George’s, the CGFT donates in the region of £135,000 each year to the school, funding technology, teaching resources, classroom improvements and enrichment across all areas of school life. At a time when school budgets are increasingly stretched, this annual contribution is vital: CGFT funds are paid to the school in the year they are received, ensuring that every pupil benefits directly and immediately from enhanced resources, opportunities and facilities.
How to Support and Apply
The CGFT welcomes contributions from all members of St George’s and the wider community. Parents of all students are encouraged to give a regular monthly donation if they are able. Donations can be made as follows:
- Regular monthly donations via Direct Debit — a simple way to give steadily throughout the year
- One-off gifts — for those who prefer to support on a flexible basis
- Suggested giving is £25 per child per month (though all gifts are valued and appreciated)
- If eligible, donors are encouraged to tick the Gift Aid box to increase the value of their contribution at no extra cost to themselves
- Some employers offer Payroll Giving, potentially matching employee donations or increasing pre-tax giving
Please note that your donations will appear on you bank statement as ‘Charity Donation’.

All contributions are very gratefully received. Thank you
CGFT is a registered charity (Charity No. 1094822) and all contributions help to extend opportunities, resources and experiences for current and future generations of Georgians.
