Year 8 PPR Day

Towards the end of last term, students in Year 8 enjoyed a day exploring how to Promote Positive Relationships (PPR). This was an opportunity for them to put aside the demands of every day academic life and stop to reflect on their relationships with one another. The day got off to a fantastic start with STEP leading the morning. In their first session, students reflected on how they most effectively receive expressions of friendship, love and affection; some of our superb sixth-formers led the small-group work and it was a pleasure to spend the morning watching our students take ownership of their engagements with each other. Their second session was on 'Animal Instincts', a simple personality and management tool that helped them recognise that their default reactions to situations are not always helpful. Reflecting on the journey of Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson, we also explored the challenge of becoming an 'Upstander' rather than a 'bystander' when we witness negative relationships. The day finished with an interactive and creative activity that encouraged students to find the things that united them as a year group. Our Year 8s responded energetically, thoughtfully, and positively throughout the day and we hope they'll continue to think over all we explored.
