CGFT Meet the Trustees
The Cecil Grant Founder's Trust Deed, requires a minimum of seven trustees, made up of two School Governors, two Old Georgians, two Parents, and the Headteacher. The CGFT Trustees are all volunteers whose role is to administer the Trust in accordance with the Rev Cecil Grant’s wishes.

Niki Kirby – Georgian Trustee
Niki is a former pupil of St George’s from 1980-87 and remembers her time at the school with great fondness. Niki has been a member of the Georgian Association Committee and a trustee of Cecil Grant Founder’s Trust for several years. Niki was Chair of the Fund from November 2013 until April 2019. She has been a qualified solicitor for 20 years, currently working for a global US law firm, and specialises in compliance and anti-money laundering. Niki is Mum to twin boys, who attend St George’s, and lives in Wheathampstead with husband Andy. Her free time is spent on home improvements, long dog walks and finding new activities to exhaust the children.
David Horton – Secretary – Georgian Trustee
David is a former pupil of St Georges from 1983-90. David has been a member of the Old Georgians for several years and took over as Secretary of CGFT in November 2013. He has been a qualified solicitor since 2003 and works as a commercial lawyer for a media technology company, based at Pinewood Film Studios. David lives in Harpenden with his wife Rebecca and two children. In his spare time David is a ski instructor (a passion arising from St George’s ski holidays) and teaches at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.
Jennie Griffiths - Treasurer - Parent Trustee
A parent of two sons, Jennie trained as a Chartered Management Accountant. After a short career break to have children (during which time Jennie worked as a Clerk to the Governing Body for local schools), Jennie returned to accountancy at a Chartered Accountants practice in Wheathampstead, where she enjoys supporting a range of clients.

John Hayward – Governor Trustee
John is a Governor sitting on the Estates and F&GP Committees, and is also a director of the Foundation Company. He works as a chartered surveyor running a small practice with an office in London and in Leeds. He has 2 grown up children and three dogs, and his interests are hill walking, skiing and travel - ideally combining all three.
Elizabeth Cowan – Governor Trustee
Liz is a parent to two children; one still currently at St George’s. Liz is a Governor on the Curriculum Committee, and she volunteers in the Science Department. She ran the Tea Tent at the school Summer Fete until 2019. Liz trained and practised as a solicitor before she had her children. Until recently Liz was PCC Secretary of her church and she is secretary of her children’s Scout troupe. In her spare time Liz enjoys singing in a local Chamber Choir, playing tennis and walking the dog.
Beverly Greenfield – Parent Trustee
Beverly is a parent of two children, one currently at St George’s, and is an active member of the PSA. She previously worked for the Royal London Society for the Blind for 14 years, helping visually impaired and vulnerable people with learning, physical or mental health difficulties into sustainable employment; Beverly now works for Hertfordshire County Council. Hobbies include cooking, spending time with family and friends and supporting her church team at St John’s in Lemsford.
Jane Hyman – Chair - Parent Trustee
A parent of two daughters at St George’s, Jane is an architect, and was a director of an international firm of architects prior to moving to Harpenden. She was also a Design Tutor at Kingston University for three years. At Roundwood Primary Jane was Vice Chair of Governors for four years, as part of the Finance and Premises committee. Jane became Chair of the Founder's Trust in April 2019. When she has time, Jane ‘enjoys’ running and gardening.
Mr Jim Armstrong - Parent Trustee
Married to Julia, they are parents of two boys at St George’s. Jim is a civil servant in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, having spent the majority of his career based overseas serving as a UK Diplomat in a variety of British missions. Jim’s children attended British Schools in Romania and The Netherlands prior to starting at St George’s. Jim’s interests include running, football and travel.
Mrs Jill Tallantire - Parent Trustee
Jill is married with 4 children, three of which are currently at St. Georges'. Jill works part-time, and is an active member of the PSA. As a parent Jill understands how fortunate the school community is to receive the benefit of the Founders Trust and is keen that all Georgians have the opportunity to 'Aim Higher'.
